Last updated 29 October 2026 This is the official text.

Nettle is still being built. When we add or remove a feature, what Nettle keeps changes too. We update this page every time that happens. The date at the top always tells you when this page was last true.

Nettle is an app for Discord. This page tells you exactly what Nettle keeps, why it keeps it, how long it keeps it, and how you can have it deleted.

There are two kinds of server. Section 2 lists what Nettle keeps on any server it is added to. Section 3 lists extra things that exist only on the official Nettle servers, which the Nettle team runs. That means the Nettle community, which is also our support server. If you are not a member there, nothing from section 3 exists about you.

On every server, a feature keeps nothing until it is used. If a server's admins (the people who run it) never turn a feature on, or you never use it, nothing is kept for it.

We collect as little as we can. Everything on this page is here because a feature cannot work without it.

1. Who is responsible

Nettle is run by a small team in Romania. It is not a company. For anything on this page, including asking us to delete your data, write to supportnettle@gmail.com or use our support server (opens in a new tab).

2. What we store on every server

Nettle saves what it needs in its own records. We call these records the database.

ID numbers

Discord gives every account, server, channel, role and message its own number. This number is called an ID.

  • Your Discord user ID. It is a number. It is not your name and it is not your email.
  • The IDs of servers Nettle is in or was in, and when it joined or left them.
  • The IDs of channels, roles and messages that a server's admins set up in Nettle, or that belong to messages Nettle posts.

Server settings

  • The settings a server's admins choose, who changed them and when, and a history of those changes. If an admin lets a named person manage part of the settings, we keep that person's ID.
  • Texts that admins write for panels. These are ticket categories and the questions asked when a ticket opens, poll questions and choices, and the titles and descriptions of role panels.
  • The picture an admin puts at the top of a role panel. Nettle keeps the picture itself, up to 2 MB. The hidden details inside the file, such as the place where it was taken, are removed. The picture is deleted when the panel is deleted.

Support tickets

A ticket is a channel where you ask a server's staff for help.

  • Who opened a ticket, its number, its category, who claimed it (took charge of it), who closed it, and when.
  • Some categories ask you questions when you open a ticket. Your answers are shown on the ticket card inside the ticket channel. Nettle does not keep them in its database.
  • When a ticket is closed, and the server has picked a channel for transcripts, Nettle posts a transcript there. A transcript is a written copy of the ticket. It has the messages written in the ticket and the files attached to them, up to a limit. The transcript exists only as a message on that server. Nettle keeps no copy of it.
  • Whether you are blocked from opening tickets on that server, the reason, and who blocked you.

Giveaways, polls and birthdays

  • Which giveaways you entered and which you won. This stops anyone from entering twice, and it makes it possible to draw a winner again.
  • Which choice you voted for in a poll. This stops the same person from voting twice.
  • Your birthday, if you set it with /ziua. Only the day and the month. Never the year, so nobody can work out your age from it. It is kept for each server on its own, so another server does not see it. You can delete it at any time from /ziua. Then the day and month are erased. After that we keep only two things. One is when you last changed it, so the limit on changes keeps working. The other is the years in which your birthday was already announced, without the date.

Reminders and actions on a message

  • Reminders (/amintire). We keep the text you write (up to 300 characters), where to deliver it and when (up to 30 days ahead). The text is deleted as soon as the reminder is delivered, cancelled or expired, or when it cannot be delivered. After that we keep only that a reminder existed, where, and when.
  • Save message (in the menu you get when you right-click a message). Nettle sends you a copy of that message in your direct messages. Nothing is kept.
  • Quote (in the same right-click menu). Nettle turns that message and its author's profile picture into a picture and posts it. Nothing is kept.

Chips games, daily work and the bank card

Chips are what you play with in Nettle's games. They have no value in the real world. Nobody can buy them, sell them or trade them for anything.

  • For each server and each season, we keep how many chips you have and when that last changed, the last day you took your daily chips, and your game numbers. These are games played, won and lost, chips bet and won, your best result, your streaks, and your first and last game.
  • Chips you put into a game that has not ended yet.
  • Daily work (/munca). The date and time of your last shift on that server, so Nettle knows when you can work again, 24 hours later.

Activity counters

  • On each server, Nettle counts your messages, but at most one message every 15 seconds. It also counts the minutes you spend in voice channels. Voice minutes count only when at least two people are in the channel, never in the AFK channel (the channel for people who are away), and never while you are deafened (have your sound turned off). These counts are kept for each day, each week, each calendar month, and in total.
  • These are numbers, not text. Nettle does not keep the words of your messages, how long they are, the channel, or the time they were sent. To make these counts, Nettle does not read what your messages say at all.
  • There is no setting yet to stop counting for just one person. You can ask us to delete your counts at any time (section 8). New activity after that is counted again. A server's admins can ask us, on our support server, to turn counting off for their whole server.

Temporary voice channels

  • Who owns which temporary voice channel, only for as long as that channel exists. Also who set up the channel that creates them.

Changing files (media conversion)

  • When you give a file or a link to /convert, our computer (the machine Nettle runs on) gets it, changes it into another kind of file, and sends it back to you. The temporary files are deleted when the job ends. For a link, our computer asks the site you linked for the file, for example YouTube or TikTok.
  • A usage count for each person, shared by all servers. It shows how many conversions you used in the current 24 hours and in total. The record of each single job is deleted after 7 days.
  • If you press Send to chat under a result, Nettle posts that file in the channel as a normal message, with your name on it. After that it stays on that server like any other message.

Moderation and protection done through Nettle

  • When a moderator uses Nettle's moderation commands (/kick, /ban, /unban, /timeout, /untimeout, /purge, /slowmode), we write down who did what, to whom, the reason they wrote, and when. We keep the same kind of record for other admin actions done through Nettle, such as handling a ticket or adding an emoji.
  • Some servers use Nettle's trap channel, a channel that is a trap for spam accounts. If you post in it, we keep your user ID, when it happened, what was done about it, and the ID of the message. Not what the message says.
  • Who sent or edited a message posted through /embed.

We use these records to look into abuse and mistakes. A server's admins see the actions themselves on Discord. They do not get to see this record.

Command usage

  • Each time anyone uses a Nettle command, we write down the command name and the time, not who used it. We use this for numbers about how Nettle is used, such as how many commands it has answered. Older records were made when the user ID was also kept. We have removed the user ID from them.

For everything above, we also keep the date and time.

3. Extra data, only on the official Nettle servers

On the official Nettle servers, which the Nettle team runs, the things below also exist. They do not exist on any other server.

Game economy

  • Your money in the game, in the game bank and in the game safe. None of it has value in the real world, and none of it can be traded for anything of real value.
  • Your job in the game, your work streak and how many shifts you have worked.
  • Items you own, things you bought in the shop, subscriptions, businesses and private voice channels.
  • Game numbers and results. Records from games that no longer exist, such as the old lottery and betting, are kept as history.
  • If you own a special item that plays a dedication, the text or the short sound clip you sent the bot for it.

Activity counters

  • How many messages you sent and how many minutes you spent in voice, for each week, each month and in total. These are used for levels and leaderboards (rankings).
  • Which channels you were active in, as counts.

Here a message counts only if it is long enough. Nettle checks how long it is, then throws it away. The message itself is never saved. See section 4.

Moderation and safety

  • Warnings, timeouts, bans and other punishments given to you, with the reason, who gave them and when.
  • Whether you are on the blacklist, and how staff voted on it.
  • Protection against raids (when many accounts attack a server at once). Actions are counted for 24 hours. If an account is put in quarantine, we keep the roles taken from it, so they can be given back.
  • Accounts that staff decided to watch, for safety reasons. Staff are told when such an account joins or leaves. This list is kept in the bot's settings file, not in its database.

Checking new members (verification)

  • If checking is turned on when you join, we keep your status, your attempts, and, at each attempt, a few signs. These signs are how old your account is, whether you joined before and came back, whether Discord's AutoMod (its automatic filter) put your name or tag in quarantine, Discord's "spammer" mark on your account, and how many punishments you had on that server before.
  • These signs make a score that only helps staff. An account with a high risk is sent to a person to look at. Nettle never rejects anyone because of the score alone.
  • Your status stays after you leave, so your attempts and the staff's decision are not lost if you come back.

Ban appeals

A ban appeal is when you ask for a ban to be lifted.

  • About the case, we keep who was banned, by whom, the reason and for how long.
  • Your answers to the appeal form, the messages between you and staff, and the names of the files you sent. The files themselves are posted in a private staff thread on Discord.
  • The decision, its reason, and which staff members handled it.

Partnerships

  • Who asked for the partnership, the advert text, the invite link, the partner server's name and about how many members it has, and where the advert was posted.
  • Staff decisions, reasons and notes.

Staff

  • If you are a staff member, we keep your rank and team, the history of changes with who made them and why, notes the leaders write for the staff's own use, and your notices that you will be away, with their reason.

Rules you accept

  • Before some actions (opening a ticket, asking for a partnership, appealing a ban, joining staff), you accept a set of rules. We keep which rules, which version, a fingerprint of the exact text you accepted (a short code made from that text), and when.

Forms you choose to fill in

The staff application and the bot-testing programme application are fully optional. You fill in both through direct messages with the bot. While the form is open, Nettle reads your replies and keeps the answers exactly as you typed them, together with who reviewed the form, the decision and the reason. There are two things to know before you fill one in.

  • Both forms ask how old you are. If you answer, that answer is kept as part of the form. Do not fill in a form if you would rather not tell us.
  • Bug reports in the testing programme keep the text you write about the problem.

The staff who review applications can see the answers. You can ask for yours to be deleted at any time, as section 8 explains.

Optional, only if you give it

  • Your birthday, day and month only, used for a gift in the game. You can change it with /ziuanasterii. There is no command to remove it yet. Ask us and we will remove it.
  • Who invited you to the server, when you joined and when you left. This is used to count invites.

4. When Nettle reads your messages

Nettle has a special Discord permission that lets a bot read the words in messages. Discord calls it the MESSAGE_CONTENT privileged intent. Below is every case where Nettle reads the words of a message.

On every server

  1. Ticket transcripts. When a ticket is closed, the messages in that ticket channel are posted as a transcript in the channel the server picked. Nettle keeps no copy.
  2. Actions you choose on a message (Save message, Quote). Nettle reads that one message to send you a copy or to make the picture. Nothing is kept.

Nothing else. Activity counting reads no words, not even how long a message is. The trap channel reacts to any message posted in it, without reading what it says.

Only on the official Nettle servers

  1. Checking message length for activity counting. Nettle checks if a message is long enough to count, then adds one to a counter. The words are read, checked and thrown away. They are never written down anywhere.
  2. A few short keywords. Nettle replies when someone writes "wlc" or "tag" in the welcome channel, or asks about a partnership in chat, to show them the right place. The words are not kept.
  3. Forms filled in by direct message (the staff application, the testing programme application, and the sound dedication of a special item). While a form you started is open, Nettle reads your replies to it and keeps the answers, as section 3 explains.

Direct messages

Nettle reads direct messages in only two cases. The first is replies to a form you started yourself (point 5 above). The second is the developer's own messages to the bot, used to give it commands. All other direct messages are ignored, and none are kept.

Outside of these cases, here is what Nettle does not do.

  • Nettle does not write down or keep messages from normal channels.
  • Nettle does not build a profile of you, and does not use your messages to train (teach) any AI model.
  • Nettle does not send your messages to any AI service.

5. What we do not do

  • We do not sell, rent or trade your data. Not to anyone, ever.
  • We do not use your data for ads, or to build a profile of you.
  • We do not join together your data from unrelated servers to build a profile of you. A few limits are counted for each person across all servers, such as conversions per day and reminders still waiting. We do this only to stop abuse.
  • We do not keep your email address, phone number, IP address (your internet address) or payment details, because Nettle never asks for them.
  • We do not put tools from other companies inside the bot to measure how it is used.
  • Nothing in Nettle can be bought with real money, and nothing in it can be traded for real money.

6. Who can see your data

Ticket transcripts are posted in a channel picked by that server's admins. Whoever can see that channel can read them, usually the server's staff. Everyone who can see a ticket can also see the answers to its opening questions. That is the point of a ticket, and it is good to know before you write something in one.

Members of a server can see its leaderboards, profiles, chips, activity rankings and birthday announcements. Moderation records, appeals, verification results, partnership requests and form answers can be seen by the staff who handle them.

A few outside services are involved.

  • Sites you link to in /convert get a request for that file from our computer. They are not told who you are.
  • The moving pictures (GIFs) in /roleplay come from nekos.best. Nettle asks it only for a picture of the action you chose. It gets no data about you.
  • Discord. From time to time, the developer asks the bot for a copy of the database in a direct message. This is a spare copy (a backup), kept away from our computer. Discord stores it in that conversation. Only the newest copy is kept. Older ones are deleted.

No other outside company, service or person gets your data. Nobody outside a server gets that server's data. The developer can look at the database to keep Nettle running, to fix problems and to look into abuse, and for nothing else.

7. How long we keep it

  • Activity counts (section 2). Daily counts are kept for 2 days, weekly counts for 2 weeks, and monthly counts for 2 months. The total is kept until you ask us to delete it.
  • If Nettle is removed from a server, that server's activity counts and daily work records are kept until someone asks us to delete them. You can ask at any time, with a ticket on our support server. We plan to delete them on their own after Nettle is removed, and this page will say so when that exists.
  • If you leave a server, your counts and chips there are kept until you ask us to delete them.
  • Reminder text is deleted as soon as the reminder is delivered, cancelled or expired, or when it cannot be delivered.
  • Changing files (/convert). Temporary files are deleted when the job ends. The record of each job is deleted after 7 days.
  • Raid protection counts on the official Nettle server are kept for 24 hours.
  • Temporary voice channel records are kept until the channel is deleted or Nettle leaves the server.
  • Your birthday is kept until you delete it with /ziua, or ask us to. If you ask us to delete a birthday, we put that first, ahead of the 30 day limit in section 8.
  • Everything else (settings, tickets, giveaways, polls, chips, moderation records and records of admin actions, command usage, appeals, verification, partnerships, staff and testing applications, staff and economy records) has no set time limit yet. It is kept while Nettle is on the server, so results and histories can still be checked. After that, it is kept until someone asks us to delete it. When we add set time limits, this page will list them.
  • If Nettle is removed from a server, that server's data stops being used. Giveaways still running are cancelled. Reminders still waiting are cancelled, and their text is deleted. The trap channel is turned off. Temporary voice channel records are deleted. A partnership with that server is closed. The rest is deleted when anyone who was an admin of that server asks for it.
  • Backups (spare copies). Every day a copy of the database is made on the same computer, and the 14 newest copies are kept. So data you ask us to delete can stay in a spare copy for up to 14 days. The copy kept away from our computer, in the developer's direct messages on Discord (section 6), keeps it until a newer copy replaces it.
  • Technical logs (the notes the bot writes about its own work) contain IDs. They are written over on their own as new ones are written.

8. Your rights and how to use them

At any time, you can ask us to do any of these things.

  • Tell you what data we have about you.
  • Send you a copy of it.
  • Correct it.
  • Delete it.

Write to supportnettle@gmail.com from any email address, or open a ticket on our support server (opens in a new tab). Include your Discord user ID. We will answer within 30 days.

There are some limits, and we want to be honest about them.

  • A ticket transcript is a message on the server where the ticket was opened. Nettle has no copy of it to delete. Only that server's admins can delete it. We will tell you when this is the case.
  • A server's staff may keep their own records of punishments given to you, as servers have the right to do. Deleting your data from Nettle does not erase a server's own record of a decision it made.
  • In the history of a server's settings, we replace your ID instead of deleting the entry, because the history must stay complete for the settings to work.
  • Deleted data can stay in our spare copies for up to 14 days, and in the copy in the developer's direct messages until a newer copy replaces it (section 7).

9. Children

Discord says users must be at least 13 years old, or older where the local law says so. Nettle is not meant for anyone younger than that. If you think a child's data has been kept, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Where data is stored

Nettle's data, and its daily spare copies, are kept on a computer we rent from OVHcloud, in their data centre in Beauharnois, Canada. The European Commission has said that Canada protects personal data well enough. That is what allows data from the European Union to be kept there. Nettle is run from Romania. Romanian law and European Union law apply to it, including the GDPR (the European Union's law on personal data).

A spare copy that the developer asks for in a direct message (section 6) is kept by Discord, whose computers are in the United States.

11. Changes to this policy

Nettle is still being built, so this policy is not finished either. Every time a new feature keeps something that is not listed above, we update this page before that feature goes live, or at the same time.

When the page changes, the date at the top changes with it. Anything important, and above all any new kind of data we start to collect, is announced on our support server (opens in a new tab). If you keep using Nettle after a change, that means you accept the new policy. If you are not happy with a change, remove Nettle from your server and ask us to delete your data.

12. Contact

Email supportnettle@gmail.com, or join our support server (opens in a new tab). We read everything.
